The RICS initiative aims to address some of the major telecommunication challenges facing rural and remote communities in the Pacific islands region including:
- lack of access to communications technology for rural and remote areas
- high costs of ICTs and access to ICTs
- digital and communication divide affecting mostly rural and remote areas (www.pacrics.net)
To date the link has been established with the Satellite and updates downloaded with internet access are possible. The equipment will relocate to the pilot site at Vaipouli College in Savaii as soon as possible.
